Statement Regarding Recent Events
Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) joins the University of Nebraska community in expressing our grief and sadness to all those who have been impacted by the recent tragedies in Atlanta, Louisville and Minneapolis. We know that the Husker community is hurting. These tragedies have been especially injurious to members of our Black and African-American community. It is normal to experience a range of feelings and emotions after a tragedy. Feelings such as shock, sadness, anger, fears, helplessness, and guilt are normal.
CAPS is committed to providing compassionate care for all of our students who have been impacted and need support. We encourage you to contact our office if you (or someone you know) would like support. We also encourage you to be a role model as a Husker. Reach out to your friends and colleagues of color and provide them support and compassion. Let them know we all SEE them and UNITE with them.
Talk with us. We can help.
Counseling and Psychological Services is a multidisciplinary team of psychologists and counselors that works collaboratively with Nebraska students to help them explore their feelings and thoughts and learn helpful ways to improve their mental, psychological and emotional well-being when issues arise.
Our staff support all University of Nebraska-Lincoln students. We understand that students may experience anger, fear, pain and frustration with current events.
