What is Let’s Talk?
For students who have never been seen at CAPS, “Let’s Talk” is a program that provides easy access to a brief, informal, and confidential meeting with professional mental health providers from CAPS.
“Let’s Talk” provides a place to discussion your concern with a CAPS professional. You will be listened to and offered support. You may be provided with resources including brief therapy at CAPS.
What happens during a “Let’s Talk” consultation?
You will read and review a consent form for the appointment when scheduling your meeting. The provider will then listen to your concerns and provide support, perspective, and suggestions.
How is “Let’s Talk” different from an initial evaluation or counseling?
“Let’s Talk” is not a traditional evaluation/assessment or formal counseling. Rather these meetings address concerns you may have in the moment and are brief and focused, typically lasting no more than 20 minutes.
“Let’s Talk” may be beneficial to:
- Students who are more interested in the perspective of a CAPS provider than in seeking counseling or therapy.
- Students who are not sure about formal counseling or therapy and wonder if it might help.
- Students who have a concern about a friend and want some guidance around what to do.
Is “Let’s Talk” confidential?
Yes! “Let’s Talk” is confidential. However, Nebraska law establishes that in order to protect the individual and/or public, certain disclosures may apply. View the Confidentiality Overview. If you have further questions about confidentiality, we encourage you to discuss them before or during your “Let’s Talk” appointment.
