Huskers Offering Peer Education (HOPE) for Suicide Prevention

UNL Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) seeks highly motivated students passionate about assisting with suicide prevention programming.

As a HOPE peer educator, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Facilitate Huskers Prevent Suicide training to the UNL community.
  • Assist in planning events and programming throughout the semester focused on suicide prevention and mental health awareness.
  • Participate in outreach events with CAPS, the suicide prevention team, and campus partners.
  • Make $500 for each completed semester of service.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend Huskers Prevent Suicide training and receive certification of completion to facilitate training to the UNL community.
  • Provide at least 5 suicide prevention trainings per year.
  • Must attend meetings with the Outreach Coordinator - Suicide Prevention and peer educator team to assist in planning events and programming throughout the semester.
  • Participate in at least 3-5 outreach events related to suicide prevention – outreach events throughout the semester including National Depression Screening Day, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Out of the Darkness Walk, CAPS tabling events, and more.
  • Assist in additional outreach efforts with creation of monthly newsletter and social media content.
  • Assist in preparing informational material and assisting with administrative needs of the suicide prevention team.

Requirements/Eligibility:

  • Must be registered as a full-time student
  • Have a passion and willingness to serve peers and provide resources for support
  • Desire to help spread awareness surrounding suicide prevention
  • 1-year commitment
  • Academic standing of 3.0 GPA or higher
