I joined Counseling and Psychological Services in 2002. Given our shorter-term model of counseling, I work collaboratively with students to develop and identify goals to work on. I am integrative in my work with students and make use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Solution-Focused approaches.
By training, I am a generalist and work with many issues including but not limited to generalized anxiety, academic anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and diversity. I also work with students who have been diagnosed with ADHD to develop behavioral strategies to improve academic performance. Additionally, I also work with graduate students who are struggling with completing their thesis or dissertations.
I have a specialization in working with members of the LGBTQA+ community. I recognize that mental health is impacted by societal factors and prejudice, discrimination, and marginalization can negatively impact students. Each individual is shaped by both their individual and collective experiences and I approach therapy through a lens of cultural humility. One of my goals in therapy is to affirm individuals and empower them to make positive changes in their lives.
